Wired Mat Installation Guide

Vulcanite Armor rock wool blankets with wire mesh are designed for straightforward installation on pipes, vessels, and ducts. Follow these guidelines for optimal performance.

Cut to Length

Cut the wired mat so that it fits the pipe with slight pre-stressing. Stagger closing joints at 30° minimum.

Wire Joints Together

Wire all closing joints (both lengthwise and circular) securely together.

Apply Metal Cladding

Finish with aluminium or equivalent metal cladding. Fasten with sheet-metal screws: hard aluminium or stainless steel 1/2", 8 per metre.

Expansion Joints

Provide expansion joints where necessary. Close with a steel tensioning wire.

Seal Connections

Make connections to mountings, end caps, and fittings watertight using a suitable sealant.

Rock Wool Insulation FAQ

Vulcanite Armor is available in three density grades with different hot surface performance ratings: Blanket 80 handles 650°C, Blanket 100 handles 700°C, and Blanket 120 handles 750°C. Testing is conducted per ASTM C411 and ASTM C447. The product is manufactured from high-quality basalt and dolomite.

Most generic mineral wool products are rated to 250-300°C. Vulcanite Armor handles hot surfaces up to 750°C, has a Flame Spread Index of 0 (per ASTM E84), and water absorption below 1 kg/m² (per EN1609). It is manufactured from high-quality basalt and dolomite using a four-axis centrifuge process, resulting in consistent fibre distribution and superior thermal performance.

Vulcanite Armor is fully compliant with ASTM C592 (Standard Specification for Mineral Fibre Blanket Insulation, Type I and III) and holds ISO, CE, and A1 certification approval. Additional testing covers ASTM C335, C411, C447, C356, E84, C692, C795, C1104, EN1602, and EN1609.

Yes. Vulcanite Armor is specifically designed for industrial environments including petrochemical plants (SASOL, ESCO contractors), power stations, and mining operations. It conforms to stainless steel corrosion specifications per ASTM C692 and C795, with chloride ion content at or below 5 PPM, making it safe for austenitic stainless steel pipe systems.

Standard specifications: Density 40-120 kg/m³, Thickness 30-100mm, Width 600mm or 1200mm, Length 2.5-5m per roll. Wire mesh stitching is available in galvanized or stainless steel (24# or 22# wire, 1" mesh diameter). Custom sizes can be manufactured on request.
